Saturday, November 13th, 2010Saving money when on vacation is something many people are looking at doing these days. Going camping is one of the options someone can use to do that. Some of the best campgrounds around are in California and camping Santa Cruz may be amongst the best there.
Full of forest and beach areas Santa Cruz and its surrounding cities offer many different scenery options for camping. Someone could be camping in a beach area and still go for a day trip to the forest to enjoy. Both areas have numerous campsites for anyone to enjoy.
One of the best places to go camping in the area would have to be Big Basin Redwoods State Park in Boulder Creek. This is the park that is the oldest in California and is also one of the biggest. A person can enjoy both the mountains and the ocean at this park as the elevation ranges from sea level to over 1,500 feet. With the elevation changes the climate can range from foggy at the coast to hot on the ridgeline so a person will need to dress accordingly during their camping trip here. Some of the additional beauty of this park would have to be the huge redwood trees that are over 2,000 years old.
In Felton the Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park is another great forest camping site. This park is much smaller than Big Basin but someone camping at this site would still have plenty to do. This beautiful redwood forest has fifteen miles of riding and hiking trails for someone to enjoy. A railroad, which is right next to the park, gives visitors a chance to climb aboard and ride a steam locomotive. That is an experience that would send people back in history.
New Brighton State Beach located in Capitola offers possibly the best camping on the beach for the area. This camp site is on the northernmost tip of a thirty mile section of beach that lines Monterey Bay and was originally a Chinese fishing village. Situated on the hills over the ocean this is a larger campground with over eighty sites available.
Sunset State Beach located in Watsonville is another camp site that offers varying scenery within the area. A camper can enjoy high dunes, farmland, the Pajaro River, beach, or coastal bluffs in the area. It is common for a camper to take the time to visit several of the areas when visiting here.
Choosing camping Santa Cruz would give someone the opportunity to settle in either in a forest or a beach area. Big Basin Redwoods State Park is one of the top camping areas in the United States and would give someone the opportunity to spend time in both a beach and forest area all in one park.
