Friday, September 2nd, 2011

Four Mile Beach is one of the most shocking beaches in the world. This beach is the signature feature of Port Douglas, Australia. If you drive via Port Douglas and on up an especially steep hill, you may arrive at a lookout from which you can see Four Mile Beach in it’s wholeness. You could actually spend two hours up there with your campervan and take in the vista which stretches for miles.

It is a scene that merits much more than a hurried look from the car window. It is really beautiful and best enjoyed over a leisurely morning or afternoon tea from the comfort of your house on wheels, I pick campervan hire australia for my campers when I am travelling..

When you have had enough of admiring Four Mile beach from on high, drive back down and really head to the beach, park your van and head for the waves. You literally can walk for miles along a white beach, dip your toes in the Pacific Ocean, admire the deep blue colours of the sea, complete with white capped waves. Head back to your campervan and relish all the comfort of home. Take a well earned snooze beside the sea, absorbing the sound of the waves and the calm air.

The high spot of your day will be to look at the sunset and again, from the comfort of your campervan, this is a special experience. There are camping facilities close by the beach and here is where you should head for the night. That way, you can sleep beside the beach and experience sunrise over the water the subsequent morning.

Are All Snake Bites Deadly?

Sunday, August 14th, 2011

It appears to be that around the planet people have a deadly fear of snakes but our precise real factual knowledge of them is naive, although we humans are much larger than them! Adults and children alike, sporadically live in fear when venturing in known hot spots where they might be. People nonchalantly admit to not even travelling to certain countries like Australia, imagining they are seen consistently and may be stalking under any bush lying in wait to attack. It’d surprise you to hear that death from snake bites is intensely rare but that’s not to claim we should not be apprised of the risks and easy provisions in the eventuality of a nip or a bite!

If you or a member of your family or group were to be bitten by a snake then there are some immediate first aid steps that should be taken to ensure a quick and speedy recovery or initial treatment until the patient can be attended to by emergency services or a doctor. Unfortunately due to the rare occurrence that people cross paths with snakes the identification of exactly what snake has bitten you can be difficult. Hopefully you will get a glance of the snakes markings or size before if slithers away at speed. If you can identify the snake inform the medical staff immediately as this will be a key factor in what anti-venom they should use. If you are not certain then it is important that venom-detection is used as using the wring anti venom can equally serious consequences.

After you are aware you have been bitten stay still and apply the right pressure to immobilise the bitten area. Don’t run away the same you would do if you have seen a mouse! – the snake will do that for you as he is just as terrified of you! Try to utilize a splint rather than a truly tight bandage, but if you want to employ a bandage make the pressure not dissimilar as that required for a sprain or twisted ankle. Don’t take away the splint or bandage until emergency services have reached you or you them.

Laying still is crucial and equally there is no need to rip off layers of clothing as even the slightest general movement will assist the venom circulating further into the bloodstream. resist the temptation to walk or run to the car so that you can get to a hospital unless absolutely necessary. Unlike say a bee sting, do not try to extract or suck out the venom as this can easily have the opposite effect.

Sporadically a bite can happen so quick that you may not notice, or there is a delayed reaction until you realize what’s occurred. However there are some basic symptoms which should confirm if you have succumbed to a bite. Symptoms like headache, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain are good signals. Continued bleeding from a bite or unsettling, tender lymph nodes, along with blurred vision, muscle weakness or paralysis are all swift suggestions you have submitted to a bite.

Attempting to find medical help is vital and speed should be of intense haste. If in outback distant areas then flying doctor services should be called – they are going to have the info and experience. Ideally if you are travelling in an out-of-the-way area where snakes are common then you must typically take a travel medical kit equipped with anti venom or at the least the power to form a good splint. You can also have to hand a simple chart of snake marks for the area to help identification. There are many survival medical kits which now cater for the outside prospect of a snake bite. As with any emergency the best guidance isn’t to panic, keep calm and remain with the victim to give moral support and help with administering the required procedures until emergency staff arrive.

How to Make a Campfire in the Rain

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

While rain can certainly put a damper on a camping trip, you don’t have to let it ruin the experience altogether. With the right materials and proper knowledge, you can still enjoy a great campfire even if your kindling and tender become wet. Have a backup plan and you will still have a good time.

Before heading out on a camping trip, always have a backup plan in place just in case rain or other undesirable weather arises. Even if the kindling and tinder you brought along is wet from rain, you can still build a campfire as long as you follow a few easy tips.

The first thing you will need to do is to find dry kindling and tinder. How is this accomplished in rainy weather? You can find dry materials as long as you go into the woods and search under leaves and other forest debris. You will discover dry materials under this layer. Gather dry sticks, twigs, and several large pieces of wood. You can also use dry pine needles, but do not add too many to the fire. Pine needles are great for igniting a fire, but they also deplete oxygen, which is necessary to keep a fire going. You can use charcloth or a butane lighter to get the fire started. If you don’t have either, the friction and oxygen method will also work.

In order to find dry kindling and logs, you’ll need to search in wooded areas that are thick with growth. Search under leaves and other forest matter for dry materials. If you can find dry pine needles, these will also help get the fire started. However, do not add too many pine needles as they tend to deplete oxygen from the fire, which will defeat the purpose of trying to get it lit. Place the dry kindling in the center of the fire pit, with tinder underneath. Next, add the dry logs. Then, you will ignite it with your lighter or matches if you have them. Otherwise, you will need to use a friction and oxygen method to get it going.

Continue to add kindling as the fire builds up. Then, gradually add dry sticks and logs. Every once in a while, gently blow into the tinder to strengthen the flames. If you have charcloth, light it and place it into the center of the fire. All you need is a small piece of charcloth to intensify the fire. By following all of these steps, you will be able to build a large campfire even in the rainiest conditions and your trip will still be very enjoyable.
